Shelby County Supervisors Celebrate Community Milestones

The Shelby County Board of Supervisors met recently and celebrated key achievements, including Sheriff Neil Gross receiving an award for successfully consolidating the Harlan Police Department with the Sheriff’s office. This consolidation highlights enhanced law enforcement collaboration in our community.

During the meeting, Sheriff Gross also shared that his department is now fully staffed, with one officer currently attending the Academy. Discussions are ongoing with Elk Horn and Harlan Schools regarding funding for a School Resource Officer, which is presently supported by ARPA funds rather than property taxes.

In another highlight, EMA Director Alex Londo announced a new state initiative offering up to $50,000 in interest repayment for tornado victims. However, funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Supervisors also addressed several procedural matters, including new utility permits and an amendment to the sales contract for the County Annex Building. Notably, they increased this year's Beaver Bounty budget from $6,000 to $8,000.
