Snowmobile Crash West of Harlan Kills 64-Year-Old
64-year-old Scott Gau was found trapped under his snowmobile in a creek about 15 minutes west of Harlan on Highway 191; pulled from icy water and later pronounced dead. Shelby County deputies ask anyone with information to come forward.
A western Iowa man died after a snowmobile crash early Sunday in Shelby County, about 15 minutes west of Harlan along Highway 191.
Deputies found 64-year-old Scott Gau trapped with his snowmobile in a creek. He was pulled from the icy water and later pronounced dead.
An autopsy is being conducted at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny as authorities continue their work on the scene.
Harlan-area residents with ties to the location or who may have information are encouraged to contact local authorities.
