Current road conditions in Harlan and surrounding areas are challenging due to significant snowfall. The National Weather Service reports that much of southern Iowa, including Shelby County, is experiencing roads that are mostly to partially covered with snow.
Snow is expected to continue throughout the day, especially between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., with areas south of US Highway 20 forecasted to receive 5 to 8 inches of snowfall. This creates hazardous travel conditions as roads are reported slick, and visibility may be compromised.
Additionally, a Cold Weather Advisory is set to take effect tonight, warning of wind chills plummeting to between 20- to 25-below zero. Residents are urged to exercise caution while traveling.
