From Barista to Manager

April Williams' journey with The Grounds began in 2015, when she heard that Fresh Encounter Church was starting a coffee shop under the leadership of their former pastor, Joe Pennington. Having always dreamed of running a coffee shop, April immediately applied. "I was the first official hire," April shares, marking the beginning of her journey from barista to manager.

After working at The Grounds for several years, April briefly took a different position in 2020. However, when Joe passed away and the opportunity arose to step in as manager in 2021, she returned to help continue what he had started. She soon brought on Anna Kienast as co-manager, creating a partnership that would help take the business to new heights.

A Creative Approach to Coffee

The Grounds has built its reputation on creative drink offerings and a commitment to quality. Their menu features everything from traditional espresso drinks to innovative seasonal creations, with the brown sugar cinnamon shaken espresso emerging as a consistent favorite among customers. The shop also offers made-to-order breakfast sandwiches, prepared fresh on their griddle, alongside an array of baked goods crafted by their dedicated baker, Amanda Hol.

"We really enjoy trying new things," Anna Kienast explains, describing their approach to seasonal drink specials. From Valentine's-themed beverages to spring honey concoctions, The Grounds constantly updates its menu to keep things fresh and exciting for their customers.
