Cyclone Volleyball Aims for Redemption in New Season
As the Harlan Cyclone Volleyball team strives for a turnaround, Coach Ellie Drees emphasizes a balanced offense and strong leadership from seniors Kelly Schwieso and Macy Mueller. Can they overcome last year's struggles and reclaim their place in the Hawkeye Ten? Find out more!
The Harlan Cyclone Volleyball team is gearing up for a hopeful season as they aim to improve their standings in the Hawkeye Ten Conference. Head Coach Ellie Drees is focused on implementing a balanced offense to enhance team performance.
Last year, the Cyclones finished with a 9-24 record and 3-6 in the conference. This season, they will look to replace three key graduates, including Samantha Ineson, Erica Rust, and Ava Monson, who collectively contributed significant kills and defense. Seniors Kelly Schwieso and Setter Macy Mueller, who had 538 assists last season, will be instrumental in leading the team.
Drees is optimistic about her defense, despite challenges in filling the libero position due to a competitive roster. The Cyclones have struggled with achieving winning seasons, having only one in the last six years, so the team is focused on strengthening both mental and physical resilience.
Harlan’s volleyball season kicks off on Thursday, August 29, with a quad at ADM against Des Moines Christian and Woodward Granger.
