Cyclones Shine on Senior Night Despite Tough Matches

The Harlan Community High School Cyclones girls wrestling team recently hosted a quad meet on Senior Night, featuring matches against Carroll, Kuemper Catholic, and Denison. The event recognized six senior wrestlers: Secilia Kurtz, Katie Namanny, Emma Christensen, Paige Wilwerding, Kyrsten Madden, and Addison Obrecht.

Despite the team facing tough competition, the Cyclones celebrated individual victories. Elle Stephens stood out with wins in all three matches, including a technical fall over Kuemper Catholic’s Sadie Smith. The team faced challenges, losing to Kuemper 36-26, Carroll 45-24, and Denison 42-24, but their spirit shone through.

The most poignant moment came when senior Secilia Kurtz, who had dropped her first two matches, secured her victory against Addison Ransom from Denison, bringing her to tears of joy. Head Coach Tarah Devlin-Lawler praised the team's growth and resilience, noting that they are gaining valuable experience.

Looking ahead, the girls will compete on Friday at Riverside High School against 22 other schools.
