Harlan Community High School senior Addison Obrecht has made history by signing a Letter of Intent to wrestle at Morningside University. This milestone marks her as the first woman to achieve this in Harlan's girls wrestling program, which recently completed its second season.
Obrecht shared her journey, expressing the significance of this moment after only a year of wrestling. She aims to inspire other young wrestlers, emphasizing that progress is possible regardless of experience. "I strive to be an example for all of the girls in the room," she said.
During her college selection process, Obrecht felt an immediate connection to Morningside. "It automatically clicked and it became my reality," she explained. With her family, coaches Tarah Devlin-Lawler, and Austin Jacobsen supporting her at the signing, Obrecht reflected on the encouragement she received throughout her athletic journey.
As she transitions to collegiate wrestling, Obrecht looks back fondly on her experience with the Cyclones, particularly her emotional moments at regional tournaments.
