Remembering Harlan Native Steven L. Balster: A Life Well-Lived

Steven L. Balster, 75, passed away at his home in Cedar Rapids on August 19, 2024, with his family by his side.

A Harlan native, he was born on August 9, 1949, and grew up in the area.

After attending Shelby High School, Steven furthered his education at Iowa Western and Iowa State University. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, where he played basketball in Japan.

Steven was a devoted family man, married to Sherry Jo Karg since 1974. Together, they raised their son Bryce and enjoyed family gatherings filled with love and laughter, particularly cherishing time spent with their grandchildren, Micheal and Grace.

A memorial visitation will take place on September 5, 2024, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, followed by a service on September 6 at 11 AM.

The Balster family encourages anyone wishing to honor Steven’s memory to consider a contribution to Trinity Lutheran School.
