Shelby County Board Approves Key Measures for Farmers and Employees

The Shelby County Board of Supervisors recently met and approved several important measures impacting local farmers and county employees.

For the 2025 crop year, they accepted bids for the county-owned farm ground and the Solid Waste farm ground. Craig Weis secured the highest bid at $391 per acre for 108 acres and $401.50 per acre for 146 acres of county-owned land.

Additionally, the board confirmed the lease with Country Care, which will remain unchanged until it expires on June 30, 2025. County Engineer Chris Fredericksen's request to maintain the current wage scale for non-union Secondary Roads employees was also approved.

Plans for wage increases for other employees based on performance evaluations were discussed, set to take effect on January 1, 2025.

Finally, the board expressed gratitude to Supervisor Steve Kenkel for his 12 years of service, highlighting the significant commitment required in this role.
